For Michigan Only
Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags to be lowered to half-staff Friday, Feb. 9, on all state buildings and within the state Capitol complex in honor of former congressman Joe Knollenberg who died Tuesday, Feb. 6.
“Joe’s commitment to our nation, state and his constituents will never be forgotten,” Snyder said. “Sue and I send our most heartfelt condolences to Joe’s family, friends and community.”
Knollenberg served in the U.S. Army prior to serving as a U.S Representative for eight terms. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed being involved in his community.
A service in his honor will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Birmingham.
This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff. Flags should be returned to full staff on Saturday, Feb. 10.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
