Half-Staff Alert for July 5 and 6, 2017

July 5, 2017 ANCHORAGE—Governor Bill Walker today ordered that United States and Alaska flags be immediately lowered to half-staff in honor of Private First Class Hansen B. Kirkpatrick, 19, of Wasilla. Pfc. Kirkpatrick died on Monday, July 3 from injuries sustained while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. He was assigned to the A Company, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, based in Fort Bliss, Texas.

“Every day, our military servicemembers put their lives on the line in defense of the values we hold dear, knowing that they may one day make the ultimate sacrifice,” Governor Walker said. “Lieutenant Governor Byron Mallott, First Lady Donna Walker, Toni Mallott, and I extend our sincerest condolences to Private Kirkpatrick’s family and friends who have suffered the incredible loss of a devoted and dedicated young man.”

Governor Walker ordered that U.S. and Alaska flags be lowered to half-staff immediately. Flags should return to full staff at sunset on Thursday, July 6.
