February 14, 2017 JUNEAU – Governor Bill Walker ordered all Alaska Flags be lowered today in honor of former Representative M. Michael Miller of Juneau, who passed away last week. Rep. Miller served in the Alaska Legislature from 1971 to 1986.

A longtime Juneau resident, M. Michael Miller moved to Alaska in 1954. In addition to serving in the Alaska Legislature, he served on the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly and the Alaska Department of Corrections Parole Board. Rep. Miller was a travel writer by trade, and wrote numerous books throughout his career. He received a bachelor degree in journalism from the University of Wichita.

“Rep. Miller was active in state and local government throughout his life, and was committed to bettering his community and state,” said Governor Walker. “I send my condolences to his entire family during this time of loss. They can take great pride in the contributions Rep. Miller made to the state of Alaska throughout his life.”

Governor Walker ordered all Alaska flags to be lowered on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in honor of the late Rep. M. Michael Miller. Flags should be returned to full-staff on Sunday, February 19, 2017.
