UPDATE- Governor Ducey has ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, September 3rd for the interment of Navajo Nation Police Officer Leander Frank. Officer Frank was on duty when he was killed in a traffic accident.
PHOENIX – “I am saddened to learn that our state and the Navajo Nation community have tragically lost another one of its finest. Navajo Police Officer Leander Frank was killed this morning in an on duty car accident on Indian Route 64. Like all of our dedicated law enforcement professionals, Officer Frank bravely risked his life every day to protect our citizens and our way of life. His abrupt passing is a sobering reminder to all of us about the fragility of life, and the daily dangers of his job.
“I ask that all Arizonans join me in praying for his family, the Navajo Nation community, and all of our law enforcement officers who perform a dangerous but important job to keep us safe.
In honor of Officer Frank, I have directed that flags at all state buildings be lowered tomorrow, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, from sunrise until sunset. I will order that flags again be lowered on the day of his interment, for which services are pending."
