For Harris County, Texas Only
In response to your request to lower flags to half-staff and pursuant to Chapter 3100 of the Texas Government Code, State of Texas flags in the County of Harris may be lowered immediately to half-staff in honor of the life and public service of Harris County Deputy Sheriff Sandeep Dhaliwal who was killed in the line of duty this afternoon during a routine traffic stop. Flags should return to full-staff at sunset on the day of the funeral service once it is set by the family.
Individuals, businesses, municipalities, counties, and other political subdivisions and entities in the area may fly flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of honor and respect.
The First Lady and I extend our heartfelt condolences to deputy Dhaliwal’s family and the entire community on this loss.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
