Clarification for California
Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the death of CAL FIRE Captain Stacy Hamilton:
“On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our condolences to Captain Stacy Hamilton’s family, friends and colleagues in this difficult time. It’s the work of brave firefighters like Stacy that keeps our communities safe and we are deeply grateful for his service.”
Captain Hamilton, of Shaver Lake, was killed in a vehicle accident this morning in Merced County.
Captain Hamilton began his career with CAL FIRE in 2006 and previously served in the United States Forest Service. He is survived by his wife, Katie, and two teenage sons, Ian and Logan.
In honor of Captain Hamilton, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
