May 24, 2019 - Half Staff Alert - Wisconsin

WHEREAS, on January 31, 2019, Major General Raymond A. Matera passed away at the age of 94;

WHEREAS, Major General Raymond A. Matera served as the Adjutant General for the State of Wisconsin from 1979 to 1989;

WHEREAS, during his time as Adjutant General, Major General Raymond A. Matera oversaw the federa,l and state missions of the Wisconsin Air and Army National Guards;

WHEREAS, during his long career of service in the U.S. military, Major General Raymond A. Matera received numerous awards and recognitions, among them the Distinguished Flying Cross, the World War II victory medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the United Nations Service Award, the Order of the Sword, the Billy Mitchell Award, and others;

WHEREAS, Major General Raymond A. Matera leaves behind an honorable legacy of service to the State of Wisconsin and to the Nation, and the people of Wisconsin mourn his passing; and

WHEREAS, funeral services will be held in the City of Madison on May 24, 2019.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TONY EVERS, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by federal and state law, hereby order that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin shall be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds, and military installations of the State of Wisconsin, beginning at sunrise on Friday, May 24, 2019, and ending at sunset on that date.
