Gov. John Hickenlooper today ordered flags be lowered to half-staff statewide on all public buildings from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, in honor of U.S. Army Sergeant Jason McClary. McClary was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo. and has family in Fountain, Colo. He will be buried Tuesday in Pennsylvania.
McClary, 24, died on Dec. 2, 2018 of injuries he sustained from a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. McClary earned two Purple Hearts and three Army Commendation medals while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie and two sons, Jett and Jason.
This order stacks on the Dec. 1, 2018 order for President George H.W. Bush. Flags should remain lowered through Dec. 30, 2018.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
