Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff at sunrise on Thursday, October 18, 2018 through sunset on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in honor of North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Conner who died in the line of duty in Columbus County on Wednesday.
Governor Cooper released the following statement:
"The tragic loss of Trooper Kevin Conner of the NC State Highway Patrol weighs heavily on our hearts. We are forever grateful for his devoted service and selfless commitment to protecting the people of North Carolina. Our prayers are with his family and friends and his colleagues in law enforcement."
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
