WHEREAS, the Legislature has designated the week during which October 9 falls as Fire Prevention Week and the Saturday at the end of that week as Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day; and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week began on October 7, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day is October 13, 2018; and
WHEREAS, on Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day we remember firefighters Cory Barr, Richard Garner Jr., and Philip Neubich Sr., who lost their lives in the line of duty this past year, and all firefighters who have given their lives in service of the people of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, the people of Wisconsin recognize and thank the thousands of firefighters across the state who have dedicated their lives and careers to serving their respective communities;
NOW THEREFORE, I, SCOTT WALKER, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, by the authority vested in me by federal and State law, do hereby order that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin be flown at half-staff at all buildings, grounds, and military installations of the State of Wisconsin equipped with such flags, beginning at sunrise on Saturday, October 13, 2018, and ending at sunset on that date.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
