Half-Staff Alert - Immediately until Further Notice
For South Carolina Only

Governor Henry McMaster orders that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff until further notice as a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated on law enforcement officers in Florence, South Carolina and as a tribute to the officers' selfless service and sacrifice and incredible bravery in the line of duty. Governor McMaster requests that flags over buildings of the political subdivisions of this State similarly be flown at half-staff for this purpose.

**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
