Governor Ducey has ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff immediately until sunset Monday, June 11 to honor the life of Staff Sergeant Alexander W. Conrad who died on June 9, 2018 in support of Operation Octave Shield in Somalia. Flags will also be lowered on the day of internment, which has not been set.
"The prayers and hearts of all of Arizona are with the family and loved ones of Staff Sergeant Conrad. He made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of his country, and we are forever grateful," said Governor Ducey. "In honor of Staff Sergeant Conrad's life and service, I've ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff effective immediately."
Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
