From the Governor: I hereby order all flags flown in the State of Montana to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 for twenty-four hours to honor the memory of U.S. Senator John Melcher, who passed away on April 12th, 2018.
Senator Melcher was a statesman whose legacy of decency and dedication to public service and to the people of Montana set a high bar for all those who followed in his footsteps. His work positively affected countless Montanans and a living tribute to his achievements are seen throughout our lands and within the people who call this great state home.

**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
