For New Jersey Only
Please be advised that Governor Murphy has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth of New Jersey be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from sunrise to sunset, in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Commonwealth, on the day of the 50th anniversary of his tragic death.
These gubernatorial orders apply to:
1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls.
2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings.
3. All state military installations.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
