Never use less than 10 feet of wire between your first fixture and the transformer. This will extend the life of your bulbs greatly. If your first fixture is closer than 10 feet to the transformer, simply bury some extra wire so that you maintain the minimum distance of 10 feet.
Layout your lighting fixtures and wire on your lawn prior to making any trenches. It is best to work out the final fixture locations at night, and do your installation the next day.
One of the benefits of using 12 V lighting is that it is easy to install and easy to change. We recommend that you do not use concrete to set the ground stakes. Our ground stakes are bigger than most and don't require concrete installation for most soil types.
Check your local community code to be sure there are not special rules concerning 12 V lighting installation. In most communities we have found that installation 6 inches deep works fine. Even in Wisconsin, where we experience many freeze and thaw cycles per year, we have not experienced wiring being pushed to the surface.
Whether you're lighting an American flag or placing accent lighting within your landscaping, I think you'll agree this is an easy way to add curb appeal to your home or business.
