WHEREAS: On October 4, 2017, three U.S. Soldiers who were part of a joint U.S. and Nigerien train, advise, and assist mission died in southwest Niger as a result of hostile fire while on a reconnaissance patrol; and
WHEREAS: Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, 29, of Lyons, Georgia, honorably served our country as a U.S. Army Green Beret. He was a member of the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) from Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS: It is fitting and proper to recognize the sacrifices made by Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright by lowering the flags on all State buildings and grounds to half-staff.
Now, THEREFORE, IN HONOR OF AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF STAFF SGT. DUSTIN M. WRIGHT, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
ORDERED: That the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds on Friday, October 13, 2017, until sunset.
**When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
