Topeka – In accordance with Executive Order 10-12, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback today ordered flags in Kansas to be flown at half-staff starting immediately through sun-down on Wednesday, Dec. 21 in honor of former Kansas Speaker of the House James Braden, who passed away Dec. 17, 2016.
Braden, 82, served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1975 to 1990. He served as Speaker of the House from 1987 to 1990.
“James Braden dedicated much of his life to serving our great state,” said Governor Sam Brownback. “On behalf of the entire State of Kansas, I extend our sympathies to his friends and loved ones.”
A Memorial Service for Braden is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clay Center, with visitation from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.
