PIERRE, S.D. – Former state legislator Robert Duxbury of Wessington passed away on June 6, 2016.
Duxbury, 82, served for 22 years in the state legislature, as a state senator from 1981 – 1983, a state representative from 1985 – 1999, and again as a senator from 1999 –2005. He was the house minority leader from 1997 – 2003.
Prior to his legislative service, Duxbury served as Secretary of Agriculture from 1975 – 1979 during the administrations of Gov. Richard F. Kneip and Gov. Harvey Wollman. He also served as chairman of the State Fair Board.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard has ordered flags to fly half-staff at the State Capitol on Saturday, June 11, the day of Duxbury’s funeral.
