Hawaii Only

HONOLULU - As a mark of respect for the late former State Senator Duke Takeshi Kawasaki, Gov. David Ige has ordered that the flags of the United States and State of Hawai'i shall be flown at half-staff at all state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawai'i National Guard, from sunrise to sunset on Monday, September 21, 2015.

"Senator Kawasaki was a respected public servant who served his community with honor and integrity. He was a leader in Senate who was not afraid to put aside partisan politics and do what was right for the people of Hawai'i. On behalf of the state of Hawai'i, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kawasaki 'Ohana," said Gov. David Ige.

Born in Honolulu, Duke Kawasaki graduated from McKinley High School and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. He served in the Hawai'i State Senate from 1967 - 1986 and held various leadership positions, including assistant majority floor leader and Vice President. He also served as deputy managing director under Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi. Kawasaki died on August 28, 2015 surrounded by family and friends.
